EVERY resident in the borough could be alerted when a child goes missing by supporting a new scheme.

An initiative spearheaded by Guard-A-Kid UK in association with Missing Children TV is operating a free text alert service to help find youngsters who have gone astray.

The new system aims to create maximum awareness and support for families in the first crucial hours when a child goes missing.

People registered to the service will receive a text message describing the youngster in the area who has been reported missing.

The date, image and information about the child will be available online for people to view and help keep a lookout. People can then assist the police with relevant information.

The hope is that somebody will see the person and pass the information on to help bring the young person to safety.

Registration takes only a few minutes and is free.

More than 200 people have signed up in the past two weeks.

For more information go to missingchildrentv.org.uk to register for the text service. Key in the code DA99A when prompted.
