RIGOROUS testing by people with disabilities has seen Cheshire Fire Service’s website earn a prestigious award that is the first of its kind.
The site has been accredited by Shaw Trust, a charity which provides employment services for people with disabilities Thorough checks of every page were done by specialist technology by staff who are blind, deaf, have low vision, colour blindness, dyslexia, mobility problems and learning difficulties.
The service then had to resolve a list of issues raised before Shaw Trust gave its accessibility award to the site and cheshirefire.gov.uk is the first in the country to gain the accreditation.
The service has also won the Plain English Society’s Crystal Mark for the clarity of information on its website.
New features to the website include a text alert system which tells people about major incidents in their area, audio clips of hoax callers and a new Kids Zone.
