RESIDENTS in a swanky new development are protesting after plans to open two takeaways were revealed.

People living on the Heatley Mere development, off Rushgreen Road in Lymm, are objecting to the scheme which is likely to come before councillors this summer.

The scheme will see a Chinese and Indian takeaway opened in the block of shops near to Co-op.

A petition has already been organised and residents, many of whom paid more than £500,000 for the properties, are livid.

They say Countryside Properties, which built the estate, promised the shops would only be for retail use.

Clr Shelia Woodyatt (CON - Lymm) said: “This is a most disgraceful application.

“This is advertised as a rural idyll, country living on the edge of rural Lymm.

“It is useful to have the Co-op there and that has been a real addition to the village and the hairdressers is also good for the area.

“But not two takeaways.

“We are doing everything we can to fight this because it is not in keeping with the area at all.”

Residents say there is not enough parking to cope with the extra demand from the takeaways.

Part of the application also allows for a number of parking bays for mopeds and neighbours say this will lead to noise problems.

Clr Woodyatt says there are also concerns about the noise and smell from the shops should they open.

It is expected that the application will be heard by members of the development control committee in July. gdunning@guardiangrp.co.uk
