AMBITIOUS plans for a major new centre of cutting edge science have been given the thumbs-up and could create up to 1,200 jobs.

Work on Vanguard House, which is set to cost in the region of £25m, is expected to start in September on the Daresbury Science and Innovation Campus.

The development has been hailed as the crucial next stage in the expansion of the campus.

John Leake, general manager of Daresbury SIC, enthused: “This will be a fantastic facility for hi-tech businesses. But the attraction is not just about the bricks and mortar – companies will be able to draw on the unique combination of business support and world class scientific expertise that has become the Daresbury SIC trademark.”

Professor Colin Whitehouse, who helps to run the Daresbury Laboratory, agreed: “Vanguard House signals a very important and exciting next phase of growth for the campus.

“It shows our model of providing businesses with the benefits of the international-class science, technology and computing expertise of Daresbury Laboratory is proving successful.”
