RESIDENTS have been warned about putting batteries in the bin after a bin lorry burst into flames.
Firefighters were called to the incident on Bramhall Street in Sankey Bridges last Friday at around 8.35am.
They found that waste contained in a bin lorry had caught fire.
As a result, a decision was made to empty the waste onto an open yard to allow crews to extinguish the fire using a hose reel jet.
Two fire engines from Warrington and Penketh attended.
Following the incident, Warrington Borough Council has issued advice on the disposal of batteries and shared a photograph of the aftermath of the fire.
“We’ve had another fire in one of our bin wagons last week,” a Facebook post by the council reads.
“Never put batteries in any bin as they can start a fire or explode when crushed.
“Large batteries should be taken to your nearest recycling centre for disposal.”
