AN animal charity is appealing for any information over a shocking and upsetting incident in Warrington.

The decomposed body of a cat in a carrier was recovered from Sankey Valley Waterway on Sunday.

A worker from a wildlife charity in the town stumbled on the cat carrier and the upsetting scenes inside on Sunday.

They took the cat to a local vets, where staff informed the RSPCA, and the charity is now calling on the public to help find out what happened to the poor feline.

RSPCA animal rescue officer Scarlet Sanderson, who is looking into the incident, said: “This is a concerning incident.

“The cat was in such an advanced state of decomposition that we cannot establish if they are male or female, let alone if they were alive when thrown into the canal.

“They have clearly been in the water for a long time.

“We are urging anyone who has any information to get in touch with us so we can find out more about what happened to this poor cat.”

Anyone who has any information should contact the RSPCA’s appeals line on 0300 123 8018, quoting reference 1242948.
