RESIDENTS have slammed the appearance of a new housing development in the town centre, stating it resembles a ‘public toilet’.
The £56million apartment complex, The Steelworks, which sits centrally on Winwick Street and John Street next door to Warrington Central Station has been under construction since August 2019. It was heavily delayed when a contractor went into administration back in 2021.
With the eight-storey block set to provide 362 homes, and a 796-space car park on the site.
And as the site is heading towards completion, with many flats fully furnished, sales listings are beginning to appear online.
However, there is one thing that has caught the eye of many locals.
That being the vibrant choice of yellow which decorates panels of the building on both the sides and front of part of the development.
One resident took to social media, asking: “Who on earth has picked the yellow colour scheme for the ‘new’ apartments near Central station?”
While another responded: “They look lovely apart from the yellow, reminds me of a public toilet.”
A creative suggestion from one individual was to add in some blue as a nod to Warrington Wolves.
Others mocked the colour scheme drawing comparisons to ‘Homer Simpson’ and ‘the minions’.
Meanwhile one resident agreed, remarking: “They are a terrible colour.”
Construction work is ongoing, with scaffolding still visible from the front of the apartment blocks.
The complex not only includes a multi-storey car park but is set to feature a ‘living green wall’ and a seventh-floor sky lounge.
Listings for the stylish apartments are now visible on Right Move, with pictures boasting the modern contemporary interior.
One of the one-bed apartments listed on Winwick Street is priced at £755 per month and states it to be a ‘pet friendly’ abode.
