CAN you help two dogs who have been looking for their forever home since 2021?

Orla and Bear have both spent most of their lives in rescue and are two of Warrington Animal Welfare’s (WAW) longest stayers.

They are each looking for their own separate homes.

As is the case in most rescues, the team at Slutchers Lane find that it takes much longer for larger dogs to find their forever homes.

A team member told the Warrington Guardian: “We have noticed that it often takes longer for our larger dogs to find a new forever home and that they end up spending more time in rescue.

“This is gotten worse with the impact of the cost of living crisis.

“We are currently looking after a few big dogs including Orla and Bear who have been waiting for their forever homes since 2021.

“But we believe that the bigger the dog, the bigger the love.”

Bear

Bear is a four-year-old Spanish Mastiff.

He has been in and out of rescue since he was born in Spain.

Bear was originally rehomed and was very happy, but sadly the couple split and neither were able to take him.

The XL dog ideally needs a quiet rural home or a home where there is enough room for him to stretch his long limbs, with lots of rural areas close by.

Bear will pull on the lead, especially if he sees a squirrel or a cat, so his new family need to be strong and active.

Warrington Guardian:

He would prefer a patient adult with large breed experience, and a home where he is the only pet.

The WAW team say Bear is okay with dogs he meets but can be dominant in a home environment.

“We have tried Bear in a number of traditional domestic settings but it hasn't worked out,” a WAW member said.

“But despite this, this poor boy needs a chance of stability.”

Orla

Orla is a four-year-old Spanish Mastiff Cross.

She came over as a puppy from a Spanish rescue but was rejected because she was too big.

When she arrived at WAW back in 2021, she was nervous. But now she is confident, playful, and very funny.

She is affectionate and loves Cuddles.

Orla needs an active, rural home or somewhere where there is enough room for her to stretch her long limbs.

Warrington Guardian:

She will need a home that has experience with large breeds and plenty of time to spend with her.

Staff say that Orla can be unsure with new people so her new family would need to be prepared to get to know her and have experience of nervousness.

She is good with dogs she meets and is well behaved overall, but can be strong-willed at times.

WAW say they feel in a home environment she can be dominant therefore she needs to be the only dog in a home where there are no children.
