WE have been lucky to avoid much flooding in town this week.

Despite storms hitting the UK in the past two weeks, Warrington has emerged relatively unscathed.

However this was not the case in these pictures of flooding from the 1980s.

This was Old Liverpool Road after bad flooding in the 1980s, above.

While the Ferry Tavern was hit by flooding which left the landlord searching for refuge on the roof in the same decade.

And in February 1990, St John's School in Latchford was under water which led to a dramatic rescue mission.

The events happened during teacher training days in the half term holiday.

And on the second day the tide was higher and the grounds and school became flooded which eventually led to a rescue in the dingy from the fire service from one of the science room doors
