Kathryn Carney was just 15 when she completed her work experience in a Warrington salon and she knew then that hairdressing was the career for her.

Now, the 40-year-old mum-of-three, who lives in Westbrook, has a successful salon in Widnes - Creme de la Crème Hair Boutique - where she employs a talented team of hairdressers and beauty therapists and trains the next generation of young people hoping to make a name for themselves in the hair industry.

Kathryn shared how she started her own business and what her plans are for another successful year.

With more than 30 years’ experience in the hair and beauty industry, the owners of Salon 89 in Orford have clearly mastered their trade.

Clare Darbyshire, who is 38, and 48-year-old Julie Roberts opened the business in May 2019 and through the Covid-19 pandemic treated their clients like movie stars, opening up the salon for one-to-one appointments when lockdowns ended.

The co-owners told us about their warm space amid the cost-of-living crisis and their plans to open a training academy to nurture the hairdressers of the future.

Olivia Morrissey may only be 21 but she is already making waves in the hair and beauty industry.

She started working in a salon at just 15 – after school and at weekends – and this was the first step in the journey to starting her own business – Livs Lox.
