Emergency services were called to the scene on Thelwall Viaduct at around 7.50am this morning, Monday.
This was following reports of a multi-vehicle crash.
Officers attended and found the incident involved two HGVs, a white Ford Zetec and a white Ford Kuga.
Fire and ambulance crews were also called to the scene and the motorway was closed in both directions to allow for an air ambulance to land.

One person has sustained a serious chest injury following the crash and has been rushed to hospital via air ambulance, a Cheshire Police spokesperson has confirmed.
A number of other casualties have been taken to hospital by paramedics.
The southbound carriageway reopened at around 9.10am, but the northbound side remains closed.
