PLANS to demolish a disused pub in Padgate have been abandoned.

The Jolly Falstaff, off Blackbrook Avenue, was looking to be demolished, according to plans submitted to Warrington Borough Council.

Plans were lodged with town hall planners in October, with a decision due to be made soon after.

However, according to the council's planning portal, the demolition has been abandoned in its current form, with the proposals being withdrawn.

Plans were submitted after Cheshire Police urged youths to stay away from the building in August.

It followed a clean-up undertaken by officers and members of the community due to the site becoming something of a magnet for anti-social behaviour over recent months.

Parents were also warned to ensure their children stay away from the building, and that they know where they are during evenings.

The force’s Poulton North Police team said: “It has taken some time and a lot of persistence, but we finally have a team clearing both the yard and outskirts of The Jolly Fallstaff.

“This area has been a persistent problem recently for anti-social behaviour.

“If you have children that live nearby, please ask them to stay away from the site. The area is dangerous with lots of broken glass.

"This just shows what we can do when the public and police work together.

"Well done to all involved.”

Plans have now been withdrawn, with no replacement plans available on the planning portal.
