WARRINGTON Borough Council has confirmed that two bin wagons will be on the roads amid ongoing bin strikes.

The strikes are taking place as part of a national dispute on behalf of members of the UNITE trade union regarding pay and conditions.

Black bin collections took place last week, before strike action recommenced this week - though on Friday the council admitted it had underestimated the impact of the strikes, explaining that it was not able to collect all bins scheduled for Friday's collection.

Today, Tuesday, the council has confirmed that two bin wagons will be making waste collections across Warrington, despite the industrial action.

Making the announcement on social media, Warrington Borough Council said: "While the bin strikes are ongoing, we are able to confirm that two bin wagons are making collections today.

"These bin crews will be visiting properties that have registered for assisted collections, making sure our most vulnerable residents get the support they need to empty their black bins."

Various community recycling and household waste sites have extended their opening hours amid the strikes, which gives residents the opportunity to get rid of their waste at the tip.

Tips in Woolston and Gatewarth have extended their opening hours from 8am-6pm until November 6, when the strikes are due to end.

Stockton Heath tip will operate at its usual hours of 10am-4pm.
