WARRINGTON Borough Council has confirmed a timetable for the construction of a replacement playground in Culcheth.

The play area's replacement has been a long time coming

Speaking before the announcement of a replacement was made, local councillors had gone as far as saying: "The children of Culcheth have been waiting far too long for a decent replacement playground and deserve a playground that is fit for future generations to come."

Members of the parish council had also admitted that the development had taken longer to green-light than they would have liked, with Cllr Pete Holmes saying: "The Parish Council acknowledges that this has taken longer than anticipated, due to myriad reasons."

It was later revealed that the project would be receiving half of the original amount of money pledged by the council.

Three local Conservative councillors told the Warrington Guardian: "While any funding offered by the Warrington Borough Council is welcome, it is disappointing that the funding that was promised has already been cut by half.

"This was an ideal opportunity for all parish and borough councillors to work together to maximise funding and to get the best possible play equipment for the children of Culcheth."

However, this was back in January, and work on the playground's replacement is still yet to begin.

When quizzed on the progress of the replacement play area, a spokesperson for Warrington Borough Council said: "In partnership with Culcheth and Glazebury Parish Council we are progressing the refurbishment of the children’s play area at Culcheth Village Green.

"A tender to commission the refurbishment is in progress and will be completed early in the new year. Work should commence on site during the spring and early summer.”
