STAFF at Wilko in Earlestown were given a round of applause as shoppers turned out to bid farewell as the store's shutters came down for the final time.
The Wilko shop closed its doors today, Tuesday, September 19.
The closure had recently been confirmed after weeks of uncertainty following Wilko's slip into administration last month, with numerous bids failing to take over the whole business.
It was an emotional day for the Market Street store's staff members who have served the Earlestown community for many years.
They were greeted by applause by members of the community outside the store at closing time on Tuesday afternoon.
A card was presented to the staff by Newton-le-Willows West councillor Terry Maguire, which had been signed by many shopkeepers and customers.
Shop manager Donna and the staff expressed their appreciation to the public for their support and well wishes.
Meanwhile, Warrington's Wilko on Golden Square is due to close on Monday.
