PLANNERS at Warrington Borough Council have scrapped plans to build nine homes in Woolston.

A decision was made by planners at the town hall which deemed the development inappropriate for the area.

The homes were being planned for an empty plot of land off Bridge Road, in Woolston - near the New Cut Heritage Path.

In the planning decision, officers said that the plug needed to be pulled on the project in its current form.

Officers said: "The proposed development would not reinforce local distinctiveness or enhance the character and appearance of the area.

"The proposal would have a detrimental impact on highway safety as a result of an inadequate access, lack of pedestrian connectivity and lack of parking.

"The proposal represents a cramped form of development with inadequate provision of private and useable amenity space.

"Insufficient information has been submitted with the planning application in order for the Local Planning Authority to determine whether there is an impact on the existing employment uses through noise complaints and air quality.

"Insufficient information (drainage information) has been submitted with the planning application in order for the Local Planning Authority to determine whether there is a likelihood that the proposal can adequately mitigate the drainage of the site and not contribute to the flooding in the area.

"The proposal fails to provide any affordable housing on the site."

According to the council's online planning portal, the plans were submitted to the planning authority in March, before they were validated in the same month.

A decision was issued by the council on this application last week.
