A COUNCILLOR has written to the Home Secretary to outline his objections to the housing of asylum seekers in Warrington hotels.

Conservative councillor for Woolston and Rixton, Rob Tynan, wrote to Suella Braverman MP to highlight objections to the use of hotels in the town to house asylum seekers.

Hotels such as Woolston's Holiday Inn have been closed to the public in favour of housing asylum seekers in recent months.

Over summer, Cllr Tynan says he conducted a survey among his ward's residents regarding the plans to use hotels to house migrants.

In a statement sent to the Warrington Guardian, Warrington Conservatives said: "While the residents say they are sympathetic to the plight of asylum seekers, they are worried that they have not been consulted on exactly who is being housed in the accommodation."

According to Cllr Tynan's survey responses, 98 per cent of residents do not want the Government to use hotels to house asylum seekers, and would instead wish that locations such as disused army barracks be used.

The statement also reads: "More than 93 per cent [of respondents] support the Government’s plans to send asylum seekers to Rwanda, adding that they fully support the Prime Minister’s promise to stop the boats, so those who come to the country illegally are detained and swiftly removed."

Cllr Rob Tynan said: "It's crucial that Woolston’s voice is acknowledged and addressed.

“The results are clear – we have done our bit for the Asylum Dispersal Scheme and residents overwhelmingly do not support it.

"Like me, my residents want the boats stopped, and that is why I am glad the Government is acting with the Illegal Migration Bill and the Nationality and Borders Act."
