GARDENS are an extension of the home and many people spend hours each week enjoying the great outdoors in the space behind – or in front – of their home.

Direct Garden Structures has spent the past 16 years making customers feel at home in their gardens, erecting pergolas and gazebos, garden rooms and garden structures.

Here owner Mark Stamper tells us about the bespoke family-run business, which operates locally and nationwide and how the Covid-19 pandemic led to an influx of enquiries.

Why did you decide to open your own business?

Initially I did full landscape designs but over time I enjoyed creating buildings to enable customers to have the extra outdoor space.

What’s your business background?

I’ve covered full landscapes works from driveways, patios, decking and turfing which led me onto designing and making gazebos, pergolas and outdoor rooms.

Why this type of business?

I’ve always enjoyed landscape work and working outdoors. I have a good eye for detail when creating outdoor buildings.

How did the Covid-19 pandemic affect your business?

Covid was a hard time for us but with the help of my son and wife, who also work for the company, we were able to create a display area safely within our own bubble at Alder Root Lane, which we opened after the pandemic.

What makes your business different to others in the same area/field? What sets your business apart from your competitors?

We offer a display area where customers can come and meet us face to face for a friendly chat and to discuss any requirements they would like.

Why do loyal customers return to your business?

Customers who move house contact us for another outdoor garden structure or add to their existing ones overtime. Our loyal customers pass our details onto friends and family. We love it when we’ve been recommended. Our Facebook page shows all our work and reviews.

What’s next? What do the next few months hold for you and your business?

We will continue to manufacture and install our pergolas and gazebos however we seem to be building a lot more garden rooms due to the fact a lot more people work and socialise from home after the Covid-19 pandemic.
