There were dozens of nominations for the school as well as their PTA (parent teacher association), which impressed the judges.

One nomination simply said “the school is amazing” and another said “everyone is extremely supportive” with “children thriving in an environment where the teachers really care”.

Another said: “Our girls love going to school and they love the staff at Gorse Covert Primary School.

“There’s never a thought of them not going and they both have a 100% attendance record which speaks volumes about the school.

“I’ve never heard a bad report about the school and the PTA is wonderful.”

One nomination had special praise for the school PTA.

It said: “Since the new PTA has been involved, the school has more of a positive and rewarding atmosphere, where the children feel included.

“They have always - and still are - putting so much effort into fundraising and other activities for the children and they continue to go above and beyond.”

Parents say the teachers are kind and caring, encouraging the children to try their best even if they are struggling and “sometimes the small achievements are bigger than one big achievement”.

They added: “The children are happy there with a range of different lessons, activities and trips that really do enhance their lives.”

Headteacher Catherine Cooke said: “We are so proud to win this award.

“To know we have been nominated by our parents is heart warming and makes the award extra special.

“All our staff work incredibly hard to provide the best education for our children, while also nurturing their wider development.

“The wonderful support of parents and the PTA enhance our school as their hard work provides a range of fun events for the children and our whole community.

“It is a combination of the staff, parents and of course, our delightful children, that make this such a wonderful school to be a part of.”
