A RAINBOW crochet garland is brightening up a Great Sankey park thanks to talented yarn bombers.

The Knit and Knatter group at Stitch Station on Station Road have put their colourful work on display on the railings around Vicarage Community Park.

Earlier this year, Stitch Station called on knitters, crocheters and pom poms makers to honour King Charles III’s coronation by creating knitted triangles for bunting at Vicarage Community Park and a new top for the post box.

The post box topper features a huge crown and a miniature King Charles III.

The group wanted to leave the decorations up throughout the summer and decided to replace the crowns with a rainbow garland.

Organiser Diane Hughes, who runs the shop and café, said: “Following on from the amazing red, white and blue bunting display for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, we wanted to string multi-coloured, mini-bunting and pom-poms across the railings for the coronation and leave them up for the community to enjoy for the rest of the summer.

“We've replaced the crowns with a rainbow celebration garland in honour of Pride month and I've already had people thank us for birghtening up the community.

“It's been so popular, we've decided to keep the community garland link project going with a relaunch on Saturday, July 1 for our Christmas in summer project.

“Customers will be asked to use Christmas colours - reds, whites and greens to decorate the Vicarage Park railings or St Mary's Church.”
