A NEW pet boarding service in Orford will offer all the amenities of a traditional kennel, but with a heart-warming twist.

Self-confessed dog lovers Gemma Birnie and her husband Chris will soon open Happy Paws, a ‘home from home’ pet boarding and day-care service and promise to take care of each pet ‘like they are our own’.

The magical twist is that they will be running the service directly from their home.

Gemma said how she has always had a ‘house full of pets’ and it has always been her dream to care for and look after animals as a career.

Speaking on the opening of Happy Paws, she said: “We want to create a home from home experience which will help with the stress and anxiety of being left.

“Pets will be able to meet me prior to being left and dogs especially will do as many meets and greets with me and my own dogs, as needed.”

Gemma and Chris will be offering overnight care and day care for dogs, as well doing home visits for smell pets and cats that need feeding and litter trays cleaning while owners are away.

They also have a double hutch that can house up to two rabbits or guinea pigs at one time, which is located in a separate room where dogs have no access to and they will also be accepting hamsters, birds, reptiles and other animals in their own cages.

The pups who attend for boarding will be treated to long walks, to explore woodland, parks and other local areas that are popular locations for dog walkers and will be joined by Happy Paws permanent fury residents, Willow and Daisy.

Reiterating the home from home experience they would like to offer to pets, Gemma added: “The dogs that come to stay will all have their own beds and bowls that are disinfected between guests, and they will be allowed to sleep or settle where they choose.

“If they prefer to be in our room for the night then they can. If they prefer another room or downstairs that's fine too.”

The pair are both animal first aid trained and have diplomas in animal psychology.

Within the one-of-a-kind service, they will also offer regular updates to owners along with photos and videos so ‘they can relax knowing their pets are safe and happy’.

“Me and my husband understand how worrying it can be to leave your pet in someone else's care, but we will do our utmost to help your pet have an enjoyable stay.

“We will care for your pets like they are our own.”

Owners can get in touch via email, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and by phone to enquire or book in.
