A TOWN centre specialist fitness centre has been shortlisted for a national award for its new soon-to-be and new mums programme.

Sigma, on John Street, won our Best for Fitness award last year and its non-profit sister company Baby Bump Fitness CIC has been recognised for its Walkin’ Talkin’ Mums programme, which brings together pregnant women, new mums with babies and parents with toddlers to exercise.

The Active Pregnancy Foundation Awards will be handing out 14 honours in a glittering ceremony in London at the end of the month with the Warrington programme making the final three in the community project or initiative of the year category.

Sigma’s Claire Gregory said: “It is great that we finally have an awards ceremony that recognises all of the amazing organisations, instructors and researchers who are supporting mums.

“To have been shortlisted alongside some of these people is an honour and we cannot wait for the awards night later this month.”

Despite the many physical and mental health benefits of regular exercise and physical activity, research has shown that participation declines during childbearing years with as many as three in four women missing out every year and few returning to pre-pregnancy exercise.

The Active Pregnancy Foundation Awards 2023 recognise and celebrate the people and enterprises that make a difference to women’s engagement with and experience of pre and postnatal physical activities.

Sally Kettle, CEO at The Active Pregnancy Foundation said: “We’ve attracted more than 400 nominations for the event this year, and I know the judges found it incredibly difficult to bring the field down to just three shortlisted entries for each award.

“It’s heart-warming to have heard from so many of the people who were nominated who felt that, for the very first time, they were being recognised for the work they’re doing.

“We cannot wait to announce the winners, whilst celebrating everyone who has made the shortlist.”

The awards night will take place on Tuesday, June 27.
