WHEN Rachel Corcoran and Matthew Harvey booked their wedding day two years ago, little did they realise that they would be sharing their special day with a once-in-a-lifetime event – the King’s coronation.
The happy couple, who live in Thelwall, tied the knot at Styal Lodge in Wilmslow on Saturday afternoon at the same time King Charles III and Queen Camilla were crowned at Westminster Abbey.
Fashion designer Rachel and sales consultant Matthew were childhood sweethearts and met at Birchwood High School in 2001.
Having got engaged in New York in 2019, the Covid-19 pandemic delayed the wedding and then the happy couple were worried they’d have to rearrange their celebrations once the King announced his coronation for Saturday afternoon.
Rachel, who is 34, said: “It was pure panic when we heard King Charles was having his coronation on Saturday, May 6 and we thought the venue might be forced to close.
“When they announced there would be a bank holiday on Monday and places could remain open we were thrilled.
“We weren’t able to watch much of the coronation celebrations over the weekend as we were too busy with our own celebrations!
“We know now why people say it’s the best day of your life – it was incredible to be surrounded by everyone who loves us.
“It has been a long time coming and was very emotional but worth the wait and we were able to celebrate with our daughter Willow.”
The new Mr and Mrs Harvey said I do in front of 88 guests in an emotional ceremony before celebrating late into the night with 125 family and friends.
The wedding was completed hand crafted, with Rachel working in the design industry, and they couple were able to call on their many creative friends to add those special finishing touches.
Rachel and Matthew are now looking forward to honeymooning in Santorini.
