YARN bombers have brightened up Great Sankey ahead of the coronation weekend with knitted bunting and post box toppers.

Stitch Station on Station Road called on knitters, crocheters and pom poms makers to honour King Charles III’s coronation by creating knitted triangles for bunting at Vicarage Community Park and a new top for the post box.

The post box topper features a huge crown and a miniature King Charles III.

Organiser Diane Hughes, who runs the shop and café, said: “Following on from the amazing red, white and blue bunting display for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, we wanted to string multi-coloured, mini-bunting and pom-poms across the railings for the coronation and leave them up for the community to enjoy for the rest of the summer.

“We provided patterns as a guide to get people started and asked volunteers to make 15-20 triangles either crocheted or knitted in any weight or shade of yarn that they had in their stash.

“Everyone has done a terrific job and they’ve certainly added a royal touch of red, white and blue to the park railings!”
