A CLASSIC Wallace and Gromit adventure is being brought to Warrington with an accompanying brass band.

Oscar award winning short film ‘Wallace and Gromit the Wrong Trousers’ is being screened at Parr Hall this Sunday, accompanied by brass band WFEL Fairey Band.

We spoke to the musician who organised this screening, James Parkinson, 38.

“So what happened is that I approached Aardman about the possibility of putting Wallace and Gromit on basically. And I did not expect them to reply and they replied, saying ‘Actually, we think this can work really well with a brass band that in fact, the composer, intended for it to be scored by a brass band when he was writing it.’

“So the original on the film track features strings and woodwind but it is very much composed with a view of a Northern brass band in mind which makes sense because Wallace and Gromit are considered to be from Wigan.”

The film is screening this Sunday, April 23, the same day the government is running their emergency phone alarm test. Rather than move the time, James incorporated it in into the show.

“The government announced on the 23rd they're going to run the alarm test on phones. We were asked about putting the putting the time back to after it started. And I was like no, no, like leave it where it is. We've actually got a piece.

“The show is in two halfs. The first half is just about playing some pieces that we usually play. The second half is Wallace and Gromit. And one of the pieces that we play is actually a piece about a lifeboat and the ship's alarm going off. So, we decided that rather than move the performance back, we're going to integrate it in and try and time it so the people's phones go off during the piece.”
