AN unauthorised traveller encampment has been established in Birchwood.

Residents reported that a group of caravans had arrived on an area off Ordnance Avenue in the morning of Wednesday, October 26.

According to Cheshire West and Chester county council, the encampment consists of seven caravans.

The land is owned by the council, and officers are currently conducting welfare checks, according to the council's website.

An encampment has been established near Birchwood Park business site, near the area of Oakwood.

The county council is currently conducting assessments on the site.

When asked about the creation of a traveller transit site, a Warrington Borough Council spokesperson said: "We are continuing to work with our partners to identify a suitable traveller transit site in the borough.

"The need for this is fully established in the submitted proposed local plan that was subject to examination in public in September.”
