AN UNAUTHORISED encampment of travellers has been set up in Risley.

Silver Lane, just outside of Birchwood, is now hosting a number of caravans that pitched up on the site.

According to Cheshire and West Chester county council, the encampment was first established on Thursday, October 6.

The county council says that the land is owned by the local council and that an officer will attend the site as soon as possible.

As of 3pm on Tuesday, October 11, the encampment was still on the Silver Lane site, just off the M62.

This marks the fifth day that the encampment has been on the site in Risley.

A number of years ago, the council installed a barrier in order to prevent the spot from being used by travellers as a site for an encampment, though access can still be gained to the lane.

According to reports there are nine caravans on the site, though some residents have claimed on social media that there were up to 12 caravans on Silver Lane as of Sunday morning.

Residents last spoke of travellers on the site in March this year.
