Hallfields Road in Orford set for new speedbumps

It follows a U-turn on highly controversial plans for a bus gate earlier this year which saw thousands of residents object as part of the Central Six plan.

The scheme, which would have seen the road close to all traffic except buses, was thrown out in the summer.

Now new measures are set to come into force on the road, following petitions from residents and consultation with council officers - these took place before the pandemic.

As a result of the pandemic, work to bring in the 'traffic calming' measures was delayed significantly, the council says.

The new measures include the installation of three speedbumps on Hallfields Road, in an attempt to enforce the speed limit.

This will be set at 20mph to further slow drivers down.

The speedbumps are set to be spaced out evenly along the length of Hallfields Road.

Hallfields Road is often used as an alternative route to Smith Drive, as that road has an 'access only' restriction in place.

When the new speedbumps are installed, two will be 'flat topped' and the third will be 'round topped.'

A council spokesman said: "Following requests from residents and councillors to better manage speeds and rat running on Hallfields Road and to be in keeping with the surrounding road traffic management provisions the council has agreed to implement traffic calming along the route.

"Further to this provision the council is looking to supporting the route by reducing the speed limit to 20mph which is again in keeping with the surrounding roads."

Warrington Borough Council gives residents the right to object to these plans, and any objections or representations must be made by December 8.
