A GIFTED student will be putting his language skills to the test when he jets off to Germany after winning a prestigious prize.
Andrew Malem, who is in year 10 at Birchwood Community High School, will be one of only 15 students making the prize trip to Hamburg after winning the Discover Germany competition.
The pupil at the Brock Road school made a convincing case to judges and Catherine Askey, Andrew's German teacher, also wrote a letter supporting his application.
She said: "Andrew is a very committed and talented linguist who has already gained an A* in his French GCSE.
"He attends a lunchtime club for German twice a week and I am delighted that his dedication has been rewarded."
