DETECTIVES are reminding Warrington residents to secure their homes after a burglar described as a 'major thorn' in the side of Warrington police was sentenced to four years in prison.

Paul Lea Blackmore, aged 32, from Gaskell Avenue, Latchford, was convicted of burglary and attempted burglary last Tuesday after a four-day trial at Warrington Crown Court.

Judge Nicholas Woodward described Blackmore as having an 'appalling record', which included breaking into a house on Reynolds Street in Latchford through a ground floor window last October, taking cash and bank cards.

However, last November he was caught on CCTV circling a house in Grappenhall village, taking items from an insecure car and forcing open conservatory doors before fleeing when the house alarm sounded.

Detective Constable Stuart Eales, of Warrington Burglary Unit, said: "Blackmore was a major thorn in our side. He is a prolific burglar who is now off the streets and behind bars.

"Taking the necessary precautions in terms of home security can help prevent you being targeted by the likes of Blackmore."

Always make sure that your home is locked up securely at night

Set the house alarm if there is one and make sure your car is securely locked and no valuables are left inside

If you are aware that a neighbour is away keep an eye on their house for them and ensure you let the police know of anyone acting suspiciously in your area
