DIRECTED by the Farrelly Brothers and starring Ben Stiller, The Heartbreak Kid is great on paper, which does nothing to prepare for the disappointment of a far too long average comedy with just a few laugh out loud moments.

Don't get me wrong, you will laugh, but all the gags seem to be at the beginning as 40-year-old singleton Eddie Cantrow meets and marries the girl of his dreams in a whirlwind romance.

The trouble starts on honeymoon when Eddie learns more about his lovely wife and starts spending time with southern belle Miranda, who he realises he's falling in love with.

Halfway through, the gags become mediocre and if it wasn't for Stiller carrying the entire movie I'd have been tempted to give up.

Stiller's offscreen dad Gerry lights up the screen as ever in his typical role of uncouth philanderer.

All in all a big disappointment but if you're a die hard Stiller fan you'll get through it, just don't expect comic magic like There's Something About Mary.
