WARRINGTON is set to participate in England's largest festival of history and culture next month.

Heritage Open Days are a chance for people to discover hidden places and try new experiences for free across the country, between September 9-18.

There are a number of events taking place across Warrington, and the full list can be viewed here.

But for now, here are our Top Five events across the festival.

Astounding Inventions, Warrington Museum

This will be a small exhibit at Warrington Museum, celebrating some of the great contributions to science that people of Warrington have made.

Amongst others in focus will be Joseph Priestley, the man who discovered oxygen (and whose name was given to one of the town's colleges).

The exhibit is available throughout the festival.

Transporter bridge guided walks, Masonic Hall

Warrington's transporter bridge is just one of eight left, in the entire world.

Learn what a transporter bridge is, how it was made, and why - giving the opportunity to learn a bit more about 'largely ignored' Warrington architecture.

Available Saturday, September 10, 10am-4pm.
