The group came together to manage overgrown vegetation, and clear litter from the area, alongside volunteers from Northern.

Chris Jackson, regional director at Northern said: "I’d like to thank everyone who volunteered to spend the day at Glazebrook – there has been an amazing transformation in just one day.

"Our community partners are the heartbeat of the railway and we’re extremely proud to work closely with them to deliver such a wide-ranging positive impact for the North of England."

The 'Adoption Group' was created by Councillor Phil Eastty and Tony Prescott, operations manager at the Hamilton Davies Trust.

Tony said: "There were 12 of us at this first adoption group event. We did plenty of cutting back and ground clearing. Everybody mucked in and we had a great time.

"Everyone is looking forward to being members of the Friends of Glazebrook Station.

"We welcome new members. If you'd like to get involved, please contact us."
