POLICE are getting on the buses' in Risley in a bid to be green and more visible.

But don't expect to see uniformed officers in a new colour scheme.

Instead, you may have to shuffle up for them on your seat as they take to public transport in a bid to get from the police station to their beat.

"The bus stop is right outside Risley Police Station so it couldn't be handier," said Steve Dodd, a community support officer.

"The journey only takes five minutes and is normally spent chatting to fellow passengers.

"We are getting to know the drivers and they are letting us know any problems they are exeriencing along the route.

"Community policing is all about engaging the public in as many ways possible, whether on foot, bicycle or in this case, bus.

"Either way we're making ourselves more visible and approachable in our areas."

Officers from Warrington East neighbourhood policing unit are using Warrington Borough Transport buses to get to patrol areas in Birchwood, Glazebrook, Croft and Culcheth as well as Woolston, Rixton and Padgate.

Charlie Shannon, WBT's operations director, said: "We welcome the fact that the officers are using our buses on a regular basis.

"Passengers and staff have commented that their presence is fully appreciated."
