WARRINGTON is set to receive its own official Monopoly board.

Winning Moves UK has announced today, Tuesday, that it will be producing the new game under licence from Hasbro.

Warrington Guardian:

The town will become the first place in Cheshire to receive its own dedicated board when it hits the shops in October, having beaten off competition from nine other areas of the county in order to receive the honour.

And residents will be invited to give their suggestions on which landmarks in the borough should be featured in the game.

Warrington's own Monopoly money

Warrington Guardian:

The Mayor of Warrington Cllr Maureen Creaghan said: “This is a really exciting opportunity for people to share their ideas about Warrington locations that should be included as part of this iconic game.

“Could we see a Monopoly board potentially with the Halliwell Jones Stadium included?

“Or Walton Hall and Gardens? Or perhaps Gulliver’s World?

“Our residents and families will have many memories and favourite places across our town, and I look forward to seeing what suggestions are proposed.”

Warrington Guardian:

Landmarks that are ‘very likely’ to feature include Warrington Town Hall, which has been tipped to take the prestigious Whitehall space on the classic London original.

The Warrington Transporter Bridge could be set to feature on one of the four train station spots, which have been handed over to a ‘travel theme’ for the town’s Monopoly edition.

Lymm Dam is rumoured for inclusion on the Water Works square, while Warrington Wolves’ Halliwell Jones Stadium and the Ikea store at Gemini are among the other favourites to secure a square.

Warrington Guardian:

And Chance and Community Chest cards are also set to receive their own unique Warringtonian flavour.

Jennifer Lau, custom games executive at Winning Moves UK, said: “We are going to be spoilt for choice with Warrington’s heritage putting this edition together.

“But everything is up for grabs – the game will reflect the flavour and feel of these suggestions.

“The public consultation process will last for 10 days. The game will be themed in sets largely around different genres, from sport to shopping and business to heritage.

Warrington Guardian:

“Chance and Community Chest cards will be themed too.

“For example, one could send players back three spaces for getting stuck in traffic on the M56 and M62.”

While a Chester and Cheshire version of Monopoly was released in 2001, no town or city in the county has had its own dedicated board until now.
