FOLLOWING brain tumour treatment, an event to celebrate the charities that helped a Warrington mum raised more than £2,700.

The Farmers Arms, Fearnhead, hosted a couple of hundred people in a fundraising day for St Rocco’s Hospice and Ivy Brain Tumour Center, who treated Louise Hulme after she received her devastating diagnosis at the end of 2019.

Over £120,000 was raised to fly Louise, from Fearnhead, to the United States for treatment which is recovering well from.

And Kelly Clarkson helped organise the day so money could be raised for the two outfits involved.

In the end, £2,740.66p was amassed – and Kelly, who has lived locally to the Farmers Arms all her life, was best pleased with how the day unfolded.

“It was very rewarding to see how well it did because we were concerned with the terrible weather that people wouldn’t show up,” she said.

Stalls and events like bouncy castles, hook a duck, tombola and face painting kept the kids busy.

Bands played for free in hour slots with a DJ rounding off the night.

Kelly continued: “We were really lucky in that respect because I know a lot of these bands are struggling after Covid with not being able to gig but we had some fantastic acts on across the day.”

Louise, her family and friends were all in attendance and enjoyed the day.

Kelly, the owner of Fearnhead Fragrance, added: “She was thankful, Louise has been through a lot and she didn’t want a lot of fuss.

“Her husband Kev got up and said some words which were lovely and why everyone was there but Louise herself has been through a heck of a lot and I think she just wants to focus on recovering after the treatment that she has had.

“But she did have a great day.”

On top of the money raised, a signed Warrington Wolves shirt and some hospitality tickets will also go to auction.

Commenting on Louise's progress, Dr Nader Sanai from the Ivy Brain Tumour Center who treated Louise, said: “Every day I have the opportunity to witness the resiliency of the brain cancer community and we applaud Louise’s efforts to share her personal experience with glioblastoma to help others.

The director of the Ivy Brain Tumor Center and director of neurosurgical oncology at Barrow Neurological Institute added: “It’s important for patients, their families and caregivers to understand that at the Ivy Center there's a team behind them every step of the way.

"Through our Phase 0 clinical trials program, we provide patients new therapeutics designed for their case, so we can get them a different and more promising outcome."

Any more money that goes into the GoFundMe page here, will be split between the two charities now that Louise has had her treatment.
