Broughton Park 10 Lymm 7.

LYMM Rugby Union Club's first XV will be seeking to cause an upset on the road to Twickenham on Saturday.

The Crouchley Lane men travel to North Two West leaders Stockport in the second round of the Intermediate Cup.

But they make the trip on the back of a league defeat against Broughton Park at the weekend.

Lymm, who could have knocked Park out of the title running if they had won, never came to terms with the blustery conditions and never had the possession from the set pieces that would enable their rapid back division to dominate.

Lymm struggled in the front five battle and, worryingly, on their own line-outs and rarely had the ball.

The hosts led 7-0 at the break but Lymm introduced Richard Butler in the second half and immediately the ball moved better among the backs but a Lymm infringement led to Broughton increasing their lead to 10-0 with a penalty on 62 minutes.

Strong Broughton defence and poor handling kept stopping Lymm's momentum at crucial times but eventually they did deliver some class.

A dash from the impressive David Williamson allowed supporting Tom Bray to leave two defenders for dead and he handed on to Chris Kinsey to finish off from 20 metres.

Jack Johnstone converted and with eight minutes left Williamson found space again but the ball was fumbled and the home team were able to kill the game.
