UNCERTAINTY surrounds the future of Stockton Heath Recycling Centre following a public consultation.

The town's three community recycling centres are located in Stockton Heath, on Sandy Lane, Gatewarth, on Barnard Street, and Woolston, on New Cut Lane.

The village site was saved in 2014 following a huge public outcry over plans to shut it but, prior to the consultation, the site had been earmarked for closure again.

A six-week consultation on its future has ended, with the council saying a recommendation should come before the executive board in October.

A spokeswoman added: "The six-week consultation, in respect to the future of waste and recycling provision at Sandy Lane community recycling centre, closed on July 29.

"Council officers are currently reviewing the responses received.

"It is hoped that a final report, including the results of the consultation and future options, will be presented to the executive board in October."

More than 3,680 people signed a petition calling for the Stockton Heath site to be saved from closure.
