HE'S been loved by Warrington Wolves fans for years.

But it turns out there's plenty of rival fans with a soft spot for Super Bennie Westwood too.

The three-time Challenge Cup winner posted on Instagram a picture of a touching card he received from 80-year-old Wigan fan Brian Hatton and his wife June.

The card congratulated the former England star on his 500 appearances for Wolves and said he always gave his all.

The card adds: "You get knocked down but you always get up and come back for more."

Brian said he had been watching rugby league since he was 10 years old and thinks of Westwood as one of the greats.

He added: "It would have been nice to see you in a Wigan shirt but it was not to be."

The primrose and blue stalwart said it was a lovely card and had made his day.

He added: "Just tells me what rugby league is all about.

"Made my day to know that there are people out there who respect the battles you have been through on the field.

"We give out and we take it and always walk off smiling."

The gesture touched many other fans with a number commenting using the hashtag #RugbyLeagueFamily.
