I AM a regular user of Dallam Playing Fields and I am writing to express my disgust with the state of the place.

There are copious amounts of discarded plastic bottles all over the place but mainly around the changing room and rugby field area.

There is also a large amount of rubbish that is strewn around the whole perimeter of the field along with a fair amount of dog excrement.

It was only about three years ago when the council spent a large amount of money to upgrade the changing rooms and apply about 1,000 tonnes of soil to raise the surface of the field to help the pitches drain off.

They also built a fenced in five-aside area and upgraded the children’s play areas. All of which are a good thing for the community.

But why oh why did they not put any rubbish bins into the park?

I know it is the responsibility of the individuals to clear up after themselves but you tell that to the rugby teams that play and train there and the dog walkers who do not clear up after their dogs have done what they do.

Why does the council spend our hard earned money on something and then walk away from it?

Someone from the council or even the local councillor needs to come and take a look at the field as something needs to be done about it.

The whole area is benefiting from having new pavement upgrades at the moment so that’s an added bonus, all this work to ensure that everything is in place for the new health/fitness centre that is planned for Longshaw Street.

It will be welcomed by all I expect and will be opened by all the dignitaries associated with it, but they need to look over the road and look at the state of what should be a place for everyone to enjoy.

They helped spend our money and they should be held responsible in part for the state it is in now.

Rant over.
