IT was a busy Sunday for firefighters across Warrington with four grass fires – two of which firefighters say were arson.

They were first called to the Loushers Lane playing fields in Latchford at 2.55pm.

Crews found an area of grass measuring 50 metres by 10 metres was on fire.

They were there around an hour and say the fire was deliberate.

At 3.15pm firefighters were called to the playing fields on Thames Road in Culcheth.

On arrival the crew discovered a grass fire measuring approximately 200 metres by 50 metres.

Firefighters used two hose reel jets and six beaters to extinguish the large fire.

They were in attendance for around two-and-a-half hours.

And at 3.20pm they were called to a smaller fire at Blackshaw Drive in Westbrook.

This grass fire measured around 25 square metres and crews believe arson was the cause.

Finally crews went to St Bride's Close in Penketh at 11.40pm.

They found grass on fire following controlled burning and extinguished the flames.
