A DARING festival goer reportedly went to extreme lengths to catch a lift home from Neighbourhood Weekender.

The video, which was shared on Twitter by @BEAUTYQUEsST and captured by Matt Ryder, has gone viral after being watched by more than 250,000 people and retweeted more than 3,000 times in 48 hours.

In the post, it said: "Scenes in Warrington after all the trains have been cancelled. A single bus has been sent as a replacement."

The footage shows a man clinging on to the back of a bus while an officer quickly runs after him on Saturday at 11.40pm.

The driver of the bus has since contacted the Warrington Guardian about watching the video on our website.

Gareth McAllister-Partridge, who runs MP Travel, said he was unaware that a man had taken such drastic measures to try to get home.

“I had no idea until I saw the video. It’s definitely my bus,” said the 34-year-old, from Manchester.

“I couldn’t believe someone would be stupid enough to do that

“I wasn’t going that fast in the first place but for somebody to try to hang on is stupid.”

Gareth had been asked to run a replacement bus service from Manchester to Chester by Arriva Trains Wales.

The bus was already full to capacity with passengers when he arrived at Warrington Bank Quay station.

Officers from British Transport Police were needed to help some of the passengers to get on and off the bus as hundreds of revellers tried to get home.

It is understood a number of festival goers struggled to organise transport from the Victoria Park music event after some members of rail staff walked out in a planned protest for 24 hours on Saturday.

Rail union RMT confirmed earlier this month that two walkouts were scheduled to take place across Northern Rail services as part of an ongoing fight over guards and rail safety.

The industrial action was confirmed for Thursday and Saturday and affected all Northern Rail services.
