AN afternoon tea with a manly twist has been launched ahead of Father’s Day.

Arley Hall and Gardens has taken the British classic and reinvented it as the gentleman’s afternoon tea.

The Gardener’s Kitchen cafe at the 19th century country house has introduced the latest item to its menu ahead of Father’s Day on Sunday, June 17.

Cafe manager Debbie Kettle said: “Afternoon teas are very popular here, so we’ve played about with it

“We always concentrate on the finger sandwiches and the dainty bit for ladies, so we just thought that we could look to do something for the gents as well.

“All the produce is locally-sourced, and all the sandwiches and cakes were made here.

“We’ve had quite a few bookings for Father’s Day already.”

The gentleman’s afternoon boasts ‘man-sized’ rustic sandwiches, ‘big boy’ pork pies, hot shots of soup, fruit cake, cherry slices and trifle ‘just the way his mum used to make’.

It also comes with the option of the Sadler’s-brewed Peaky Blinders black IPA, with the acclaimed drama series having been partially-filmed at Arley Hall.

Debbie added: “We’ve got shots of carrot and ginger soup, individual pork pies, ham and celeriac slaw sandwiches, brie and roasted pepper sandwiches, pastrami and gherkin sandwiches, plus shots of trifle, cherry slices and some fruitcake.

“Accompanying that is the Peaky Blinders IPA.

“As Peaky Blinders was filmed here, we’ve brought in the beers and spirits that have been produced for it.

“They’re going down really well and the series attracts a lot of people to Arley Hall.”

The gentleman’s afternoon tea is available at the Gardener’s Kitchen at Arley Hall from 12pm to 4pm throughout the year, and is priced at £12.95 or £17.50 with beer.
