TWO people suffered serious injuries after their car crashed into a pond in Birchwood yesterday morning.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to the incident on Daten Avenue at Birchwood Park shortly before 10.30am on Tuesday.

Five fire engines and an aerial ladder platform were sent to the scene, with crews using stabilisation equipment to help paramedics to rescue two casualties from the vehicle.

Both were taken to Salford Royal Hospital with what were believed to be serious injuries.

A man in his 70s received injuries to his chest in the crash, while a 68-year-old woman sustained injuries to her back, leg and arm.
