FIREFIGHTERS were called to reports of a fire in a field last night, Monday.
Crews arrived at 5.30pm and found that the fire, near Shorwell Close in Great Sankey, was approximately 10x10m and had been started by a farmer who was burning a quantity of logs, wood and hay.
After consulting with the farmer, a decision was taken to extinguish the fire as the smoke was affecting a nearby road.
The team from Penketh were detained at the scene for approximately two hours.
