TIME Square Car Park has been shortlisted for BBC North West Tonight's 'People's Choice Building of the Decade Award' – alongside The Mersey Gateway bridge.

The multi-storey car park, which opened in the town centre in late 2017, is just one of 25 competitors in the running for the award, which sees viewers vote for their favourite modern building constructed in the past 10 years.

It will go up against four other nominations, including The Mersey Gateway in Halton, Buxton Natural Mineral Water Factory, Planet Pavillion at Jodrell Bank and Storyhouse in Chester on Thursday's BBC North West Tonight programme.

Greater Manchester, the first of the five north west regions, will showcase on the 6.30pm BBC North West Tonight programme, this evening, Monday, followed by Merseyside, Lancashire, Cheshire and North Derbyshire and Cumbria and the Isle of Man this week.

Each night viewers can pick their favourite building from the five nominations in that region in an online vote on the BBC North West Tonight website.

By Saturday, viewers will have voted for five regional winners to compete in the final, with reporter Stuart Flinders presenting a bespoke report on each from Monday April 23.

The final vote will open on Friday April 27 and will close on Friday May 3, with the overall winner being announced at the North West Property Awards, organised by Insider Media, on Thursday May 17.

Stuart Flinders will report live from the winning building during BBC North West Tonight the following evening.

He said: "Some of the shortlisted buildings have fascinating backstories and are really important to the communities in which they're located, so it's not just about aesthetics and architecture."
