TWENTY five years ago Warrington was united in grief after a senseless IRA attack in the heart of the town.

On March 20, 1993, two bombs were detonated on Bridge Street killing 12-year-old Tim Parry and three-year-old Johnathan Ball while injuring many more.

As the town rallied together to pick up the pieces in the aftermath of the Warrington bombing, music producer Brandon Leon, who now lives in America, vowed to help keep the victims’ legacy alive.

Brandon had previously recorded an original song called Change with the support of his children.

“After we heard about the Warrington bombing, we decided to re-record the song and release it as a fundraising charity record,” he said.

“We were inspired by the bravery of our friends Bronwen and Paul Vickers – she lost a leg in the awful bombing.

“We played the original track for Bronwen and she loved it.

“She suggested that we donated all the proceeds from the new version to Colin and Wendy Parry’s House of Hope charity, which they had formed after they lost their son Tim.”

Brandon set to work preparing the final stages of the song but tragedy struck once again when Bronwen was diagnosed a year later with cancer.

“Bronwen was very excited to be involved in our project and was really looking forward to singing on the record but sadly passed away just prior to the recording date,” he said.

Brandon was delighted to welcome Bronwen’s husband Paul to the recording which included children from school choirs from across Cheshire and Greater Manchester.

A number of famous faces including the former Everton FC captain Dave Watson, actress Sue Johnston and comedian Jimmy Cricket also joined the campaign to produce a charity single.

“They all sang and appeared on the video,” said Brandon.

“We received permission from HRH Prince Charles to use TV footage of his visit to Warrington when he met the families of those killed and injured in the bombing.”

The project was sponsored by Knutsford-based company Eurocamp and the video was recorded and edited by the students at Warrington Community College.

Brandon now hopes the song will be included in the new BBC drama about the Warrington bombing.
