CAMPAIGNERS fighting the proposed £212.74 million Western Link will hold an objection rally at the Town Hall ahead of this evening's full council meeting.

The Communities United Against the Warrington Western Link and Objection Against the Warrington PDO (preferred development option) groups are holding the latest rally in opposition to the authority's proposed bypass, as well as the local plan.

Residents are encouraged to meet from 5.30pm onwards, with the meeting due to begin at 6.30pm.

The council is among nine authorities battling for Government funding for the controversial Western Link.

Campaigner Lisa Cooper has warned residents that the highway 'has repercussions for us all'.

She added: "If the Western Link goes ahead then it will make it far, far more easier for Warrington Borough Council to push forward with the rest of the draft local plan to be implemented too.

"In the first instance, it's essential that you do all that you can to oppose the Western Link."

Campaigners will also be forwarding a petition to the Department for Transport.

Residents turned out in force to protest against the bypass and local plan at the Town Hall in October and last month.
