A LONGFORD man has been charged with drunkenly tipping a neighbour out of his wheelchair.

Alan Devine appeared at Warrington Magistrates' Court on Wednesday charged with assault after the alleged victim needed two stitches.

Mr Devine, aged 38, from Sinclair Avenue, allegedly committed the offence against James Pownall on July 5. He pleaded not guilty.

The court heard Mr Pownall is a wheelchair user because of tumours on his back. He went to Mr Devine's house. Mr Devine was drunk, became aggressive and wheeled Mr Pownall to the front door, the court heard.

Mr Devine then tipped the wheelchair up, cutting Mr Pownall's head, and Mr Pownall was left on the step for an hour and a half until his mother found him, the court heard.

Mr Devine told police he was an alcoholic and had drunk four litres of cider and could not remember the alleged assault, the prosecution said, though he denied he would do anything like it.

He was granted conditional bail until the next hearing on September 11.
