TEN people have been charged over a ‘large scale’ plot to smuggle drugs and phones into jails including Risley prison.
Eight men and two women from the West Midlands, aged between 20 and 43, were arrested following a series of police raids in Birmingham and the Black Country on Wednesday, March 14.
They have been charged on suspicion of using drones to fly drugs, psychoactive substances and banned items over the walls of prisons including HMP Risley.
Other prisons believed to have been targeted include HMP Liverpool, HMP Wymott, HMP Birmingham, HMP Oakwood, HMP Featherstone and HMP Hewell.
The group were expected to appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court today, Thursday.
